The Goodness of God

Over and over again throughout Scripture, we are reminded of the amazing attributes of God. He is full of grace and mercy, gives hope, and provides our needs, along with many other things. We could continue for years and not contain the whole of how great our God really is. However, when sinners first hear about God, Christians are often quick to tell them of the wrath and consequences that come from choosing a life away from God.  However, the Bible gives reminder after reminder about the kindness and goodness of our God. Starting in the Old Testament, the Bible gives a glimpse of God’s greatness.

The Lord, the Lord God, merciful and gracious, longsuffering, and abounding in goodness and truth. (Exodus 34:6)

Oh, give thanks to the Lord, for He is good! For His mercy endures forever.  (1 Chronicles 16:34)

Good and upright is the Lord. (Psalm 25:8)

God’s definition of good, and the world’s definition of good may look different, but we can rest assured of one thing: God’s goodness always acts with our best interest in mind.  He sees the beginning and the end, and knows the perfect plan for each of our lives.  While things can happen in our earthly lives that do not always feel good, God reminds us that all of our suffering and discipline will end with our best interest in mind. We were created to glorify God, and through His goodness, we are able to accomplish this at the end of our lives.

Today, take time to reflect on the goodness of God, and how His goodness has impacted your life so far. Take time to tell others about His greatness and share the gospel with those around you.  You never know when you may be used by God to lead others to Him.
