About Elyria Community Church of the Nazarene

Mission

The mission of the Church of the Nazarene is to make Christlike disciples in the nations. At ECCN, we strive to live out that mission in Elyria, OH and the surrounding communities.  Everything we do is somehow related to making disciples.  Whether it is a church service or a basketball game, we want to help people follow Jesus Christ.

What is a Nazarene?

The Church of the Nazarene is a protestant church established in 1908. We believe that God offers forgiveness, peace, joy, and love to all who ask. This is achieved by choosing to enter into a personal relationship with Jesus Christ. If you would like more information on the denomination, you can visit the official website (www.nazarene.org).

Beliefs

Put simply, we believe the Bible.  Most importantly we believe in the saving work of Jesus Christ.  We believe in one God, eternally existing as three persons (Father, Son, and Holy Spirit).  We believe in the inspiration of Scripture (the Bible).  We believe that we have all sinned and need Jesus.  He died to pay the penalty for our sins and rose from the dead to give us new life.  We believe that God wants to make every one of His followers holy through a process called "sanctification."  We believe God still heals.  We believe in the return of Christ and the future hope of Heaven.

For a more detailed explanation of our beliefs, check out the Church of the Nazarene Articles of Faith.

Church History

ECCN was organized with Pastor S.E Durban in July 1930.  In 1948, Gulf Rd and Ohio Street became the site for the growing congregation. Dedication took place November 1949. Additions in 1959 &1978 were signs of progress. In 1987, 16 acres of land was purchased on Rt. 113 under the leadership of Pastor Bill Kirby. The first phase (The Family Life Center) was dedicated by Dr Jack Archer on June 27, 1993.

Now, ECCN is focused on the life-changing power of the Gospel getting to every young family possible in Elyria, OH.  We have a variety of outreach and community events and ministries to help everyone connect.

Pastor Scott Eastburn

Pastor Scott & Kristin were both born in Eugene, Oregon. They met in January of 1993 and were married on December 4th 1993. Pastor Scott was not a Christian when they married and although Kristin was a believer, she was not walking with the Lord at the time. During their first seven years of marriage Kristin re-dedicated her life to Jesus and began to pray for her husband. In April of 2000 her prayers were answered when Scott accepted Christ as his savior. They were baptized together on Pastor Scott’s birthday on June 11th 2000. In July of that same year they were both sanctified. Pastor Scott was called into ministry in October of 2000 and began his journey towards Ordination in the Church of the Nazarene. In June of 2007 Pastor Scott and his family moved to Mitchell, South Dakota to be the Associate Pastor of Youth and Families at Harvest Community Church of the Nazarene. He served as Youth Pastor for two and a half years and then moved into the Senior Pastors role in 2010. Pastor Scott completed his course of study towards ordination through Nazarene Bible College and was ordained on August 17th 2011. Pastor Scott served the church in Mitchell until the Lord moved them back to Oregon in October of 2014. He has been serving Church on the Rise in Roseburg, Oregon for the past six and a half years. Over the past six months God began to stir in Scott and Kristin a spirit of openness toward a new ministerial call. In their response to God’s movement they have come here as Pastor Scott accepted the call to pastor our church

Pastor Scott and Kristin have three children. Their son, Tucker, is their oldest and is getting married to Alexis on June 4th 2021. Dawson, their oldest daughter, is 22 and has been married to Cody for three years. And, Quinlan, their youngest, will turn 14 on May 23rd. Quinlan will be a freshman in high school this coming fall.
