True Rest

Sometimes, life feels as if it will never slow down. Week after week, we see tragedies all around us, along with the everyday hustle and bustle of life. We easily become consumed with making sure everything is taken care of, and it can lead us to a point of feeling heavy or exhausted. Hope feels distant when we are in the midst of it all. We do not know how we will continue to push through another day.  Jesus knows. He knows all of our thoughts and feelings, and He provides rest for us, only found in Him.  In Matthew, He offers rest to those who follow after Him: true rest, because He sees all and knows all.  Matthew 11:28-30 says:

“Come to me, all who labor and are heavy laden, and I will give you rest. Take my yoke upon you, and learn from me, for I am gentle and lowly in heart, and you will find rest for your souls. For my yoke is easy, and my burden is light.”

When life keeps throwing difficulties our way, we can rest in knowing that God is working all things for good. Our good may not always align with His ultimate good, but we can have peace and rest knowing that we serve the God who continually creates and orchestrates everything for the good of His people. We can come to the foot of the cross to exchange our sadness for joy, our heavy hearts for gentleness and peace, and our burdens for rest. When we surrender our hearts to Jesus, we are promised to receive peace that surpasses the knowledge of this world, and our hearts can rest in that promise eternally.
