“In God We Trust!”  (An imperative)

In whom do we put your trust…

In 1854 The United States Congress said, “The Congress of the United States recommends and approves the Holy Bible for use in our schools.”

Proverbs 3:5-6  5 Trust in the Lord with all your heart and lean not on your own understanding;
in all your ways submit to him, and he will make your paths straight.[a]   (or, will direct your paths)

French writer Alexis de Tocqueville, after visiting America in 1831, said, "I sought for the greatness of the United States in her commodious harbors, her ample rivers, her fertile fields, and boundless forests--and it was not there. I sought for it in her rich mines, her vast world commerce, her public school system, and in her institutions of higher learning--and it was not there. I looked for it in her democratic Congress and her matchless Constitution--and it was not there. Not until I went into the churches of America and heard her pulpits flame with righteousness did I understand the secret of her genius and power. America is great because America is good, and if America ever ceases to be good, America will cease to be great!"

Alexis de Tocqueville.

An Admonition…

Jeremiah 7:5-6   5This is what the Lord says:
“Cursed are those who put their trust in mere humans, who rely on human strength
and turn their hearts away from the Lord.
They are like stunted shrubs in the desert,
with no hope for the future.
They will live in the barren wilderness,
    in an uninhabited salty land.

Proverbs 14:34 34 Righteousness exalts a nation,
But sin is a disgrace to any people.

II Chronicles 7:14   14 if my people, who are called by my name, will humble themselves and pray and seek my face and turn from their wicked ways, then I will hear from heaven, and I will forgive their sin and will heal their land.

The reason that Christianity is the best friend of government is because Christianity is the only religion in the world that deals with the heart.  Thomas Jefferson

A Promised Blessing…

Jeremiah 7:7-8  7 “But blessed are those who trust in the Lord and have made the Lord their hope and confidence.  They are like trees planted along a riverbank, with roots that reach deep into the water. Such trees are not bothered by the heat
or worried by long months of drought. Their leaves stay green, and they never stop producing fruit.

“[July 4th] ought to be commemorated as the day of deliverance by solemn acts of devotion to God Almighty.”    John Adams

Psalm 33:12  12 Blessed is the nation whose God is the Lord, the people he chose for his inheritance.
