Strength in Weakness
If you are reading this blog, you have probably heard some pretty tough news this past week. Almost every day, something comes across television or computer screens that discourages people. From events going on around the world to struggles in personal life, it seems that there is always a reason to be down. As a Christian, we must remind ourselves that our hope is not in this world. However, at times it can seem overwhelming to live in this world and keep an eternal perspective. We can find encouragement and advice for everything we need written in the Word of God. God reminds us over and over again through His Word that believers are not meant to live life alone. In Matthew 18:20, Jesus states:
“For where two or three are gathered in my name, there am I among them.” (ESV)
Galatians 6:2 says:
“Bear one another's burdens, and so fulfill the law of Christ.” (ESV)
Whenever life starts to feel overwhelming or exhausting, we are not meant to go through it alone. God tells us that we can lean on one another during difficult times. Some people often talk about life in the metaphor of hills and valleys. Everyone has times where they feel happy and content in life. These times are referred to as the hills. Then there are times when everyone feels burned out, tired, or discouraged in life, and it can be easy to praise God when life is good. However, it can become more difficult to praise Him when life gets hard. People forsake us, life fails us, but God never does. 2 Corinthians 12:9-10 reminds us of this truth.
But he said to me, “My grace is sufficient for you, for my power is made perfect in weakness.” Therefore I will boast all the more gladly of my weaknesses, so that the power of Christ may rest upon me. For the sake of Christ, then, I am content with weaknesses, insults, hardships, persecutions, and calamities. For when I am weak, then I am strong.
If you’re not currently in a season a difficult time, God calls you to be the support that someone else needs. God did not save us to leave us alone in this world. He is our only source of strength and hope. May we focus our minds on Christ and help others through difficult days.
