Wired to Worship... but how?
What makes you “tick”? What is it about a sunrise, a great plate of Italian food, or perhaps when your favorite song starts streaming through your Spotify playlist? What you experience in those moments of happiness may be a key to the way you were wired by the Lord!
Let’s take music, for example. For some people, music brings them to a deep place of worship and peace. Worshipping in song on Sunday morning is an absolute joy and each week they look forward to lifting their voices together with other brothers and sisters. This allows them to be reminded of the One worthy to be worshipped and what the view will look like in heaven when all nations, tribes, and tongues will be eternally praising Him together. This person worships through music.
Worshipping and enjoying music may feel foreign for another child of God! They may take the time of worship in music on a Sunday to stand at the entrance in the back and greet any latecomers. They probably turn off music in any room of the house almost automatically while walking into the room, much to the chagrin of their music-loving family members. Yet if that individual is given a problem to be solved in order to help out a brother or sister in need it seems that he feels the Spirit flowing through his veins! That person worships through service.
So, how about you? Where is it that you feel closest to the Lord? Is it in the quiet morning hours when it’s just you, Jesus, and a cup of coffee? Perhaps you are able to take a walk in the late afternoon as the sun is beginning to set through the trees and there you can walk alongside the One who draws You to Himself with a gentle whisper. Maybe you’re the kind of person who sees and feels the needs of others before anyone else understands?
God has designed you and made You for His pleasure and purpose. It is no mistake that you feel His presence most deeply when you are doing the exact thing that He created you to do. If you’re curious about how He’s wired you, begin by diving deeply into His Word and into prayer, creating that habit for yourself if you don’t yet have one. Then, ask where there is a need for service in your local congregation. Starting somewhere and learning alongside other believers is key to help you know where God has you to fit best within His body!
