Mission

The mission of the Church of the Nazarene is to make Christlike disciples in the nations. At ECCN, we strive to live out that mission in Elyria, OH and the surrounding communities.  Everything we do is somehow related to making disciples.  Whether it is a church service or a basketball game, we want to help people follow Jesus Christ.

What is a Nazarene?

The Church of the Nazarene is a protestant church established in 1908. We believe that God offers forgiveness, peace, joy, and love to all who ask. This is achieved by choosing to enter into a personal relationship with Jesus Christ. If you would like more information on the denomination, you can visit the official website (www.nazarene.org).

Beliefs

Put simply, we believe the Bible.  Most importantly we believe in the saving work of Jesus Christ.  We believe in one God, eternally existing as three persons (Father, Son, and Holy Spirit).  We believe in the inspiration of Scripture (the Bible).  We believe that we have all sinned and need Jesus.  He died to pay the penalty for our sins and rose from the dead to give us new life.  We believe that God wants to make every one of His followers holy through a process called "sanctification."  We believe God still heals.  We believe in the return of Christ and the future hope of Heaven.

For a more detailed explanation of our beliefs, check out the Church of the Nazarene Articles of Faith.

Church History

ECCN was organized with Pastor S.E Durban in July 1930.  In 1948, Gulf Rd and Ohio Street became the site for the growing congregation. Dedication took place November 1949. Additions in 1959 &1978 were signs of progress. In 1987, 16 acres of land was purchased on Rt. 113 under the leadership of Pastor Bill Kirby. The first phase (The Family Life Center) was dedicated by Dr Jack Archer on June 27, 1993.

Now, ECCN is focused on the life-changing power of the Gospel getting to every young family possible in Elyria, OH.  We have a variety of outreach and community events and ministries to help everyone connect.
